Hello World!

I know, it's a tried-and-true trope, but here is yet another voice in a sea of voices, offering my own opinions, ramblings, and hopefully a little bit of joy along the way.

You'll have to pardon me—I've never really done any writing like this before. Heck, the last time I can remember writing anything substantial was back in college, though I've certainly been known to write a book or two in Discord.

So, why am I here?

Off Cooldown is a place for me to digest gaming. It's far beyond a hobby for me, and I suspect many of you who find your way here feel the same.

I also have a wife and two children, and if they ever stumble across this little corner of the internet: you three are the most important part of my life. Gaming just happens to be a very close second. It's been with me for as long as I can remember, and I wanted to give something back to a hobby that's given me so much. This site is my way of stretching my creative muscles and, with a little luck, becoming part of the broader conversation.

As for credentials? Well... I'm not a professional gamer.

I am, however, comfortably mediocre.

I've had the pleasure of earning the title of Elden Lord, but the games that truly shaped me were Diablo II and Counter-Strike 1.6. Ever since the early 2000s, I've been chasing that same feeling those games gave me. Like many people with ADHD, I tend to be better than average and worse than I should be at just about every game I play.

Right now, World of Warcraft is my bread and butter, so you'll probably find most of my writing centered around blue posts, patches, new content, class changes, and whatever Blizzard has us arguing about this week.

I'm not a game designer. I'm not a theory-crafter. I'm certainly not here to replace Wowhead.

There are already plenty of places that will tell you what changed. I'm more interested in talking about whether those changes actually make the game more fun.

That doesn't mean WoW is all you'll find here. I've spent years bouncing between games—everything from Path of Exile to EVE Online, modded Minecraft, ARK, and whatever flavor of the month happens to grab my attention. Off Cooldown will probably follow those interests wherever they lead.

If you've found your way here, thanks for stopping by.

Here's hoping we both keep our skills off cooldown.
